Tips & Suggestions
Arrangements of cool contrasting colors (think mint green and cherry red) are definitely vivacious. But when picking a palette, make sure the flowers will suit your wedding style and colors. Bring a bridesmaid dress fabric swatch with you when you meet with us so we will have a good starting point.
Consider the season in which you are marrying when deciding on which flowers you want in your arrangements. Marrying in the summer or in a humid climate? Go for the hardy flowers that won’t wilt, such as sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias, lilies and hydrangeas. Avoid gardenias, lily of the valley, tulips, and wildflowers.
Matzke floral designers always consider the size of the bride when we design the bride’s bouquet and we want to compliment her gown. We pride ourselves in making a nice light bouquet so the bride won’t be tired from the weight of the bouquet. We are always careful to consider members of the wedding party and not make the bouquets too fragrant. Some of the most fragrant flowers include freesia, lilies, lilacs, tuberoses, gardenias, and lilies of the valley.
We focus on having access to the ceremony and reception sites early on the big day. The bride’s family usually has a key to these two sites and informs us when they will be open.
During your consultation we will talk about when you want your flowers delivered as you will want them for the formal pictures.
Matzke Florist will deliver your flowers boxed with cellophane and well misted – that way they’ll look fresh through your ceremony and reception. Don’t leave the flowers in the sun’s path – direct sunlight will speed up the wilting process.
If you’re bouquets are to be delivered in vases with water, dry the stems before handing them to the girls. You won’t risk having stains of the dresses minutes before they take the aisle.
You don’t have to toss the actual bouquet. Matzke Florist makes a smaller bouquet to toss for that traditional ritual. We use flowers that we have used in the other wedding flowers and put more infusion on the ribbons then the flowers in this bouquet.
Matzke Florist is also an event designer shop and has many other decorations you might want to use like balloons, candles, special vases. Dealing with one vendor rather than four or five may alleviate some stress.
